I Have Been Absent, of Late . . .

True confessions.  I don’t know exactly why it is, but, I just have not been taking the time to blog as much as I would like to, or used to anyway.  Maybe because I just don’t feel inspired enough???  Or, heaven forbid, it has fallen off my list of priorities.  (NO! Say it ain’t so!!!) It’s surely not because I don’t have enough ideas rolling around in my head, or enough projects going on.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I have been working very hard on keeping myself in shape.  It took me two years to take off approximately 60 lbs, and I am damned determined to keep it off!!!  It takes a whole lot of self-discipline, which takes up most of my waking hours!  😛

Anyway, as it happens, I am taking enormous pleasure in (dare I say it) running!  I can’t call it running, but my son asked me once.  “Are your feet leaving the ground, Mom?”  “Yes…”  “Then you’re a runner.”  Haha.  I still prefer to call it jogging.  Or Walk, interval jogging.  My time isn’t what I would like it to be, but I am still working on that.

What brings me here today was not necessarily my story of self-preservation.  I just feel the need to share some projects so you all know I have been absent, but not . . . dormant.  There is always something on the needles and/or hook.  Sometimes I cannot count them all on one hand!  (I am sure none of you have this problem, correct???)  Sooo . . . here goes.

Latest to first???  Meh, I’ll just pick a thing.  Some beautiful crochet lace.  Using mercerized cotton, size 10 thread, and (I believe) a size 7 steel crochet hook.

I love crochet lace! I was commissioned to make this bookmark

How about some more crochet lace???  I would really love to try to make a lovely lace crochet summer tunic.  What do you think?  Maybe put together with some cute Irish Crochet Roses…

Some more crochet.  This time, a couple of my world-famous Wine Totes . . . I made these both on the same day…

Crochet Lace Wine Tote,

Crochet Lace Wine Tote, Ecru with specks.  Worsted weight cotton yarn.

Is that enough for one day???  I think NOT!  Haha.  My new love . . . knitting!!!  Here is a ‘scrapghan’ I am working on.  I have such an enormous cotton yarn stash, it’s just ridiculous.  It’s just about my favorite medium, knitting or crochet.  I buy it by the cone when it’s on sale.  I grab a ball or two when I see some colors I really love…

This Scrapghan will be knit entirely with Seed Stitch.  Did I just hear a collective *GASP*  I get this comment all the time . . . “Seed stitch drives me BATTY!”  But, I love it.  It is the epitome of ‘mindless’ knitting.  I can go on for hours…watch my favorite television shows, or just listen to my favorite Pandora radio stations.  (I LOVE PANDORA!)

So, without further ado:

This new Love Child of mine is a knitting project I have wanted to do for quite a while now.  In fact, ever since I finished the last one!

Measurements:  48 – 50 inches wide by 72″ long

The recipe:

‘Tons’ of any brand, any color combination of worsted weight cotton yarn.  (I figure this baby will weigh in at around 32 to 40 ounces, or better when finished)

Size 10 circular needles.  (I am using 36 inch, but I am sure 24″ would be plenty long.)

Cast on 153 stitches.  I like to use a provisional cast on because it ‘mirrors’ the bind off edge.

Row 1:  *Knit 1, Purl 1; repeat from *, ending with a knit stitch.

Repeat Row 1 to your desired length, changing colors as your little heart desires!  Bind off in pattern.

That’s it!

I do hope you all have missed me!  😉  Have a safe and Happy Independence Day Weekend!!!  Love . . .  GMa Ellen
